Das Porträt entstand vermutlich nach dem Krieg 1920. František Janeček trat zu Beginn des Krieges wie sein Bruder Vojtěch zunächst der österreichischen Armee bei. Später schlossen sich beide der Tschechoslowakischen Legion in Russland an und kämpfte somit gegen die Mittelmächte, auf deren Seite der jüngere Bruder Vít eingesetzt war. Vojtěch und František kehrten erst 1920 wieder nach Hause zurück. --- Fotografie zobrazuje Františka Janečka v uniformě československých legií v Rusku. Portrét byl zřejmě pořízen po konci války v roce 1920. Podobně jako jeho bratr Vojtěch Janeček, narukoval také František Janeček nejprve do rakousko-uherské armády. Později se oba připojili k československým legiím v Rusku, které bojovaly proti Ústředním mocnostem. Tím pádem se ocitli na opačné straně konfliktu, než jejich mladší bratr Vít, který bojoval v řadách rakousko-uherské armády. Vojtěch s Františkem se vrátili domů teprve v roce 1920. 91er Regiment
