Regen) erbte von seinem Großvater und Namensvetter Josef Penzkofer dessen Militärpass und ein Gruppenfoto. In dem Interview berichtete er, dass er sich als junger Mensch nicht für den Ersten Weltkrieg interessiert habe und somit seinem Großvater keine Fragen in diese Richtung gestellt habe. Der Ausweis seines Großvaters Josef Penzkofer ist ein vorgedruckter Militärpass mit einheitlichem Inhalt, ausgenommen der handschriftlichen Vermerke in den Leerzeilen. Er dokumentiert die Einberufung, persönliche Daten, Teilnahme an und Daten von Schlachten sowie Verwundungen oder den Todesfall.“ Auf der Vorderseite erkennt man den Aufdruck der kaiserlichen Krone, den Schriftzug „Militärpaß“ und Jahresklasse 18-- mit 2 Leerstellen in denen die Zahlen 9 und 4 hineingeschrieben wurden (1894) sowie 3 Leerzeilen darüber. In den ersten beiden Leerzeilen wurde handschriftlich vermerkt „Kanonier Penzkofer Josef“. Über dem Aufdruck steht das Wort Landsturm handschriftlich vermerkt. Der Militärpass ist am linken Rand teilweise mit Tesafilm fixiert, da das Papier aufgrund seines Alters sehr fraglich ist; es ist bereits stark gelb verfärbt. --- Josef Penzkofer zdědil po svém dědečkovi a jmenovci Josefu Penzkoferovi jeho vojenskou knížku a skupinovou fotografii. V rozhovoru vypráví, že jako mladého člověka ho první světová válka nezajímala, proto se svého dědečka na první světovou válku nevyptával. Předtištěná vojenská knížka sloužila Josefu Penzkoferovi jako průkaz. Vojenská knížka dokumentuje datum odvodu, soukromé údaje, účast v bitvách, stejně jako zranění nebo úmrtí. Mezery určené k zaznamenání údajů jsou vyplněné ručně. Na přední straně je vidět potisk císařské koruny, popisek „Militärpaß“ a ročník 18__ se dvěma mezerami, do kterých byly vepsány číslovky 9 a 4 (1894). Na přední straně vojenské knížky jsou ještě tři prázdné řádky k ručnímu zaznamenání údajů. V prvních dvou řádcích bylo ručně zaznamenáno „Dělostřelec Penzkofer Josef“. Nad potiskem je ručně poznamenáno, že Penzkofer byl příslušníkem „Landsturmu“. V jednotkách „Landsturmu“ sloužili nejstarší odvedenci bavorské armády. Vojenský průkaz je na levé straně zčásti slepen izolepou, neboť starý a silně nažloutlý papír již ztratil svou pevnost.
