Regen) besitzt eine Sammlung von Fotografien, sowie schwarz-weißer und farbiger Postkarten, die sie von ihrem Schwiegervater Johann Kern geerbt hat. Diese schwarz-weiß Fotografie zeigt Johann Kern auf einer Studioaufnahme in Uniform. Das rechte Bein hat er abgespreizt, die linke Hand hält den Gürtel, die rechte Hand ist als geballte Faust auf dem Tisch neben ihm abgestützt. An seinem linken Bein ist ein Schwert bzw. Säbel in einem am Gürtel angebrachten Schaft. Links von seinem Körper steht ein Holzstuhl. Das Besondere an dieser Fotografie ist der Messing-farbene Rahmen, der mit Mustern reich verziert ist. Der Rahmen selbst ist an einigen Stellen verrostet. An seiner Hinterseite ist ein Ständer angebracht. --- V rodinném archivu Theresie Kernové z obce Bischofsmais (okres Regen) se nachází sbírka fotografií, černobílých a barevných pohlednic, které zdědila po svém tchánovi Josefu Preisovi. Tato černobílá fotografie zobrazuje Johanna Kerna v uniformě na ateliérové fotografii. Pravou nohu má nataženou, levá ruka drží pásek, pravou rukou sevřenou v pěst se opírá o vedle něj stojící stůl. U levé nohy má meč, respektive šavli v pouzdru připevněném na opasku. Zvláštní na této fotografii je bohatě zdobený mosazný rám. Samotný rámeček je na několika místech zkorodovaný. Na zadní straně je upevněna podpěra sloužící k postavení obrazu. Der südwestlichste Zipfel der flämischen Region in Belgien, kurz gesagt "Flandern" unmittelbar vor der französischen Grenze, steht bis heute für den jahrelangen Krieg ohne jegliche Fortbewegung der Armeen. Der Militärplan nach den strategischen Überlegungen Alfred Graf von Schlieffen´, Frankreich binnen sechs Wochen zu schlagen, war bereits im September 1914 in der Schlacht bei der Marne gescheitert. Frankreich und England hingegen verfolgten von Anbeginn des Krieges mit allen Mitteln das militärische Ziel, die deutsche Offensive an allen Orten anzuhalten und die deutsche Militärmacht vom französischen Staatsboden wieder hinauszudrängen. Ypern in der Provinz Westflandern in der Region Flandern, Belgien, nahe der nordfranzösischen Grenze wurde von Anbeginn zum neuralgischen Punkt im titanischen Kräftemessen der Großmächte Frankreich, England und Deutschland an der Westfront, das über vier lange Jahre währte. In der heutigen Geschichtsschreibung sind vier große Flandernschlachten konstitutiv für die Verhärtung und Zementierung der Westfront und die definitive Umwandlung des duellartigen Bewegungskrieges alteuropäischer Prägung in einen einzigen auf Abnutzung, Erschöpfung und Vernichtung abzielenden Stellungs-, Massen- und Materialkrieg des industriellen Zeitalters: von Oktober bis November 1914 nach dem Aufmarsch der Truppen auf alleierter und deutscher Seite, vom April 1915 als Durchbruchsversuch der deutschen Truppen, von Juli bis November 1917 als Durchbruchsversuch der Alleierten Frankreich, England und nunmehr USA, vom April 1918 im Zuge der letzten deutschen Frühjahrsoffensive als letzter großer Versuch, die Stadt in Flandern einzunehmen. Die Regelmäßigkeit des erbitterten Kampfes um Ypern über vier Jahre hinweg zeigt das Scheitern sämtlicher Strategien auf beiden Seiten der Westfront.
