Feb. 1916 ist er zu St. Michiel (Frankreich) durch ein Granate im Unterstand verschüttet worden und dadurch erstickt. Er wurde auf dem Militärfriedhof St. Michiel beerdigt. Zwei weitere Brüder Georg und Michael mussten in diesem unsinnigen Krieg ebenfalls ihr Leben lassen.
