Als Festungsstadt des russischen Zarenreiches sollte Brest-Litowsk im Zuge der jahrelangen Kriegshandlungen zu einem besonderen neuralgischen Punkt werden: Auf der Grundlage des Waffenstillstandes vom 15. Dezember 1917 an der gesamten Ostfront sollte dort am 3. März 1918 nach über zweieinhalb Monaten zuweilen zäh verlaufenden Verhandlungen ein Separatfrieden zwischen den Mittelmächten Deutschland und Österreich-Ungarn und den neuen bolschewistischen Machthabern in Moskau im Gefolge der Oktoberrevolution von 1917 unterzeichnet werden. Entgegen der Rezeptions- und Wirkungsgeschichte zum Ersten Weltkrieg, die sich lange Zeit vor allem auf die Westfront in Frankreich konzentrierte, war die Ostfront ein nicht minder zentraler Kriegsschauplatz für die Mittelmächte. Bis Kriegsende 1918 sollte die Ostfront mit über 1.000 Kilometern von Ostpreußen an der Ostsee bis hinunter zur Ukraine am Schwarzen Meer der längste zusammenhängende Frontverlauf im Ersten Weltkrieg werden. Dennoch gilt die Ostfront im Ersten Weltkrieg als \"die vergessene Front\". Aufgrund der ethnisch-kulturellen und nationalen Gemengelage und der damit verbundenen Frage der „Loyalität“ der jeweils lokal ansässigen Bevölkerungen wurde indessen der große Krieg an der Ostfront auf allen Seiten der kriegführenden Parteien zu einem politisch-ideologisch motivierten \"Krieg der Galgen und der Gehängten\" (Herfried Münkler). Er selbst diente im 91er Regiment Budweis und war letzter Obmann des Kameradschaftbundes Linz. Auf Anfrage ist der Koffer im Böhmerwaldarchiv Passau einsehbar.\r\n\r\nDer Koffer beinhaltet unterschiedlichste Dokumente aus der Zeit des Ersten Weltkriegs sowie aus der Geschichte des Kameradschaftsbundes in Linz. Das beigefügte Inhaltsverzeichnis - angefertigt von Josef Pils bei Übergabe des Koffers - verzeichnet sämtliche Stücke (siehe Dokument in diesem Datensatz). Zu erwähnen sind vor allem ein Portrait des Oberplaners Dr. Gustav Jungbauer; eine handsignierte Ausgabe seines Buches \"Kriegsgefangen\" (mit Erinnerungen an die Zeit im 91er Regiment und die russische Kriegsgefangenschaft); ein umfangreiches Album mit Fotos von der Serbien-, Galizien- und Isonzo-Front; Regimentsgeschichtliche Akten; Persönliche Briefe.
